APPALACHIAN TRAIL OPEN HOUSE - A BIG SUCCESS!!!
Crowd gathers for ATOH
On March 29, CVATC hosted the Appalachian Trail Open House. The ATOH was a night to celebrate and focus attention on trails and environmental groups in the Pennsylvania Capitol Region. Approximately 240 people attended the event, a figure well beyond the presenter’s expectations.
The main feature of the ATOH was the first public showing in the area of the new National Geographic movie “Wild Spaces – The Appalachian Trail”. This acclaimed film features breathtaking views of the entire 2,175 mile trail. It follows hikers as they tackle the trail and the many volunteers who maintain it. Seven organizations served as presenting partners along with CVATC. The presenting partners included CHUM Outdoors, an outreach activity of Camp Hill United Methodist Church, the venue of the event. The other presenting partners were the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Appalachian Audubon Society, Appalachian Trail Museum, Central Pennsylvania Conservancy, Keystone Trails Association and the Sierra Club. Each presenting partner brought a display that showed their activities, and most provided door prizes. Lorrie Preston of Appalachian Audubon
CVATC would like to thank all of those who made this very successful event possible, including the presenting partners and the many volunteers. Special thanks go to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, for making it possible to show the NatGeo movie and for providing the Grand Prize, a DVD of the movie. Attendees discuss their next hike on the Appalachian Trail
